(CNN exert) — Pop star David Cassidy filed suit on Wednesday (Oct 5th, 2011) against Sony, claiming he was not paid for his image on merchandise from the hit television show, “The Partridge Family,” in which he starred.”For nearly 40 years, defendants have swindled Mr. Cassidy out of his rightful share of the profits from The Partridge Family, and when Mr. Cassidy has inquired as to the matter, have lied to him so as to continue to conceal their deception,” said the lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court.”Mr. Cassidy has reason to believe, and does reasonably believe, that defendants have been perpetrating a scam” and “will continue to go to any and all lengths necessary, no matter how despicable, to avoid upholding” his contract, the suit said.Named as defendants are Sony Pictures Entertainment, and subsidiaries Screen Gems Inc. and CPT Holdings Inc.The suit, which alleges fraud and breach of contract, demands “in excess of millions of dollars, in amount to be determined at trial.”A Sony spokeswoman said the company does not comment on matters involving litigation.In an interview with CNN, Cassidy, 61, said he simply wants what’s owed to him.”It’s just a matter of being fair, and doing the right thing,” Cassidy said. “I have no other alternative if Sony is not going to be reasonable.”

Conrad Murray – Is he guilty or is he not? As the trial of the decade kicks off, the world is watching. We may not have liked everything about Michael Jackson, but for all of us who watched his post death movie “This is it”, we have sadness that his truly amazing talents ended in such tragedy. Therefore, we all take interest in this trial which a jury will determine if Dr. Conrad Murray was “guilty” of causing Michael’s death.

End of the Road for R.E.M. After Three Decades at the Top
Iconic band R.E.M. announced that they are splitting up after 31 years of making music. “Losing My Religion” and “End of the World” are trending on Twitter.
On September 21st 2011, after fifteen albums and 31 years together, R.E.M. have decided to “call it a day”, in an announcement on their official website. The band have assured fans that the split is amicable.
Their full statement read, “To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touch by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.”
R.E.M. Bandmembers Say Thank You in their Own Words
Michael Stipe, Peter Buck and Mike Mills each added their personal words of thanks to the fans. They also reflected upon 31 years of R.E.M. and explained why it was time to break up the band. All three confirmed that, while they were parting professionally, it was on the best of terms and they remained firm friends.
Lead singer, Michael Stipe wrote, “I hope our fans realize this wasn’t an easy decision; but all things must end, and we wanted to do it right, to do it our way.” His sentiment was echoed by guitarist Peter buck, “One of the things that was always so great about being in R.E.M. was the fact that the records and the songs we wrote meant as much to our fans as they did to us. It was, and still is, important to us to do right by you. Being a part of your lives has been an unbelievable gift. Thank You.”
All three bandmembers were keen to reiterate that there was nothing acrimonious about the break up of the band. Bassist Mike Mills added, “There’s no disharmony here, no falling-outs, no lawyers squaring-off. We’ve made this decision together, amicably and with each other’s best interests at heart. The time just feels right.”
